Musician

Charlene’s incredible passion and versatility as a musician have powered a longstanding career in music theatre and as a musician in her own right.

Her theatre work extends from the keys in many pit orchestras – including 18 seasons at the renowned Stratford Festival Theatre – to music director on many productions with Drayton Entertainment and the Stirling Festival Theatre.

Outside of the theatre, Charlene has enjoyed an impressive career as a collaborative pianist, playing venues across the country. She has appeared with the National Arts Centre Orchestra (Ottawa), the KW Symphony and has often accompanied renowned Canadian/Stratford actress Cynthia Dale in performances across Canada and the US.

Charlene has also created a rich history of playing local church venues. She is a co-composer of “The River Rolls” – a collection of music portraying the history of Waterloo Region and its partner collection “Across the Senses” which celebrates Waterloo Region’s visual artists. She is also credited as the composer of two new hymns in the Voices Together hymnal.

In 2011, Charlene released her first solo CD – “Now is the Time – Old Hymns, New Soul” an instrumental, piano-based collection of her favourite hymns, featuring a jazz/gospel feel. The album was nominated for the Canadian Gospel Music Association’s Instrumental Album of the Year.

As a recording artist, she believes that music is another healing art. She continues to record and release spontaneously-inspired improvisations on all major streaming platforms.
